Weather is described with chha: Garmi chha (it's hot), Jaado chha (it's cold), Ghaam laageko chha (it's sunny), Baadal laageko chha (it's cloudy). Ask Aaja mausam kasto chha? ("What's the weather like today?").
Nepali literally says "water falls": Paani parchha (it rains / will rain), Paani paryo (it rained), Hiu parchha (it snows). For tomorrow just add bholi: Bholi paani parchha? ("Will it rain tomorrow?").
The key word is barkhaa — the monsoon, roughly June to September: heavy rain, leeches, and cloud-hidden peaks. The clear, dry autumn and spring that bracket it are the prime trekking windows. Knowing barkhaa from the dry season saves a trip.
1. Ask "How's the weather today?"
आज मौसम कस्तो छ? (Aaja mausam kasto chha?)
2. Say "It's cold."
जाडो छ। (Jaado chha.)
3. Ask "Will it rain tomorrow?"
भोलि पानी पर्छ? (Bholi paani parchha?)
4. Say "It's the monsoon now."
अहिले बर्खा हो। (Ahile barkhaa ho.)
